Many ACJA-LAE chapters have received a notice from the Internal Revenue Service that their tax-exempt status has been revoked.  This notice was sent because these chapters failed to electronically file the e-Postcard (Form 990N) for three (3) consecutive years.  The IRS changed the reporting procedures for our chapters in 2008. Chapters were advised to file the e-Postcard before May 15th of each year.  This information has been published on our web site and through numerous mail outs as well as inclusion in the Advisor's Handbook and Chapter Guide.   There is also a direct link to the e-Postcard on our web site. (See IRS Requirements)
If your chapter has received this Revocation Notice, you MUST fill out IRS Form 1024  to get your tax-exempt status reinstated.  (Form 1024 Instructions)  At the top of Form 1024, you must print "Automatic Revocation, Notice 2011-43".  This is very important!!!  The chapter must also submit the User Fee of $100.  Chapters are exempt under Internal Revenue Service Code 501(c)(7).   If your chapter received the Revocation Notice, your chapter is no longer tax exempt and the chapter cannot receive tax-deductible contributions. All chapter revenue will have to be reported to the IRS each year until your tax exempt status is reinstated.  Your chapter has been included on the IRS Automatic Revocation of Exemption List of organizations that are no longer tax-exempt.  The list is published by state.
If you have further questions, please contact the National Office.

ACJA-LAE CHAPTERS:  It is of utmost importance that chapters fill out Controller Sheets when submitting chapter applications to the National Office.  Many chapters are still not filling out Controller Sheets when submitting applications for processing.  When submitting chapter applications to the National Office for processing, please be sure to include a Controller Sheet with the applications. Be sure to fill out the top with the name of the chapter, the mailing address (including the school name, if applicable) that you wish the membership material sent back to, and the person who is submitting the applications needs to sign the Controller Sheet.  We are still having chapters not receiving their membership material because either a return address was not included and/or a Controller Sheet was not completed and we had to "guess" who to send the membership material  back to.  We have also had membership material returned to us as "unclaimed."  The Controller Sheet can be downloaded from the web site on the Site Map page or from the link above. This will help ensure that each chapter's new members receive their membership material in a timely manner.  Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
